What Color Does Hair Dye Not Fade In?

March 19, 2024

Before looking for a dye that doesn't fade or lasts longer, it's important to understand how hair color fades and why the end of color loss is yellow.

The color of hair is because it contains pigment particles, and different pigment bonds are arranged in the hair like a color wheel, and due to the fusion of pigments, Asians are usually purple and reddish black, which is why the hair color that has been dyed purple and red needs to wait for the color to fall off before dyeing other colors

Orange and yellow are the primary hair colors of Europeans, so it is best not to use foreign products if you need to cover white. Foreigners have light pigment factors, and need to use stronger chemical additives to penetrate and color.

While there isn't a hair dye that never fades completely, some colors may fade less dramatically or slower than others. Generally, darker, cooler tones like black and dark brown tend to fade less visibly than lighter or brighter colors like blonde or pastel shades. However, even these darker colors can oxidize over time, potentially revealing underlying warmer tones.

Regarding the fading process, hair color fades due to multiple reasons, including washing, sun exposure, heat styling, and the natural exfoliation of the outer layer of the hair shaft (cuticle). When artificial hair color molecules are washed out or broken down, the underlying natural pigment can start to show through, which is why you might see a yellow or orange tint in lightened hair – these are the natural warm undertones of hair.

For Asian hair, which often has a reddish or purple undertone when lightened, choosing a dye that counteracts these underlying pigments is crucial. For example, using a toner with ash or violet tones can help neutralize unwanted warm hues.

For European hair, which often has more noticeable orange and yellow pigments when bleached, using a toner with blue or green tones can cancel out these warm tones effectively. However, it's essential to use hair products that are suitable for your hair type and structure, regardless of your ethnicity, and to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to minimize damage.

Keep in mind that while some brands or types of hair dyes may claim longer-lasting results, it's still important to take good care of dyed hair by using color-safe shampoos, conditioners, and protecting it from environmental stressors. Regular touch-ups and maintenance are also necessary to keep hair color looking fresh and vibrant.

Lastly, the suitability of hair dye products should depend on individual hair health, texture, and desired outcome rather than solely on ethnic background. It's always best to consult a professional stylist who can recommend the best course of action based on your specific hair situation.
